Looking after our skin isn’t just about getting a facial treatment every now and again (although this is a very beneficial thing to do). No, it’s also important to feed our skin from within.

Supplements that are good for the skin

That can mean eating properly, hydrating and taking the right kind of supplements for your skin. With regard to the latter, vitamin A, vitamin C, omega three, omega six and antioxidants will help keep our skin glowing and clear.

Vitamin A, for instance, helps your skin remain soft, while vitamin C is great for collagen formation (keeping our skin more ‘elastic’ and less likely to wrinkle) and for general blood vessel flow, which means a glowing complexion.

The two essential fatty acids – omegas three and six – help plump out the skin as well as hydrate it. They’re especially beneficial for those with eczema and acne. And finally, the antioxidant will help the skin fight those damaging sun rays and free radicals we hear so much about these days.

One skin booster we haven’t previously mentioned is probiotics. In helping our digestion, they allow us to absorb other supplements better.

Won’t I get all this from my diet anyway?

Even though we may hit the recommended daily allowance of fruit and veg several days a week, we’re still not getting enough of the key skin nutrients vitamins A, C and omega oils. Remember, too, that certain activities, such as smoking, vaping, drinking alcohol and eating too many sugar-laden snacks, can deplete our gut bacteria. This means you may not be absorbing what little vitamins you have. By maximising the amount of ‘skin’ vitamins in your gut, the more chance you have of them reaching your skin.

And what about collagen supplements?

Taking collagen supplements involves a little trickery in the sense that they trick our body into healing. To do that, it creates more collagen – of which we tend not to have enough in the first place anyway.

What to look for in skincare products

Ingredients such as vitamin C and Lactic Acid are good. So too, are antioxidants such as white tea and retinol. A broad spectrum SPF of 30 is essential every day, 265 days a year, to protect the skin.

The reason you should wear anti-ageing products is because they can hydrate and make your skin look radiant. They can also minimise fine lines, wrinkles, and the damaging effects of free radicals.

Skin is a two-sided organ. This means we can treat from the inside and topically with our active skincare products.

Treating the skin from within through skin-specific supplements can reduce wrinkle appearance, increase hydration and smooth your skin tone giving your skin a glowing radiance with little change to your daily routine.

Using quality ingredients in a therapeutic dose that will make a difference in your skin is key. That’s why we work with the Advanced Nutrition Programme.
